Making a dream come true......the story of Paige, our competition winner

We were delighted with the entries for our BFG “Dreams are as Precious as Gold” competition and our winners were picked at random by our Director of Distribution, Simon Martin.
As we contacted our winners we enjoyed reading the answers to the question we posed “If your dream of finding a gold bar came true, what would you do with it?” but when we read the words of our final runner-up we were moved to tears………..
“I spend lots of time in hospital as my kidney is poorly. I would get another angel (nurse) & extra bed for my ward & some toys & books for the playroom.  This would mean another child can get better sooner.  After my operations I feel better if I have a game/book to read in my hospital bed.  The play leaders help me to forget my pain.
I hope that I will get better one day & this will be a way to say thanks to my ward and my doctor, who helps me & mum when she stays with me.”
Paige is 10 years old and has had to endure many operations on her kidneys. We were so impressed that this young girl had been so selfless in her wish to help others that we wanted to find a way to make her dream come true. When she found out she had won a gold emoji pendant she was overjoyed but initially too ill to travel to London. We sent her a Harrods Christmas bear, Hugh, to keep her company and as an avid Roald Dahl fan she made him a golden ticket!

Once Paige was strong enough to spend a day in London, we decided to make her day at Harrods as special as we could and to help make her selfless dream, to help other sick children, come true.
We presented her with her prize – a gold emoji pendant, and then surprised her with a gift voucher to spend in the Toy Kingdom for the children on her ward. Our friends in Mini Harrods met her and carefully helped her to choose the toys and also presented her with their own goody bag.

Finally we treated the whole family to Afternoon Tea in the Georgian restaurant, where again she was treated like royalty and was given some extra special treats by the amazing team there.
Paige’s mother couldn’t thank us enough and some extracts from her thank you note are as follows:
“When we entered Harrods on Saturday Paige told me that she had butterflies in her tummy and that she felt special - "like Charlie when he goes to the Chocolate Factory with his Grandad". I on the other hand was so overwhelmed, I seemed to spend the whole day holding back tears - of happiness, at watching Paige enjoy the whole experience.

Harrods Bank can be proud that it has provided us all with an experience that we will NEVER EVER forget, and most importantly the BFG Competition was all about dreams......and you have made Paige's dreams come.”
